  1. The question I have chosen to do is number three. Personally I do not believe Theodore would have signed the divorce papers if he had not met Samantha. This being said, before Theodore started speaking to Samantha he was very lonely, sad and he kept having flashbacks of the relationship with Catherine. Therefore Samantha distracted him from having these thoughts, if he had not started speaking to Samantha and fall in love with her I think his loneliness would get to him. Through the movie, it was shown that he needed to have a significant other as he depended on them for his happiness. He kept trying online dating sites in order to find someone for him so I think if he would not have met Samantha that he would have tried to get Catherine back into his life and solve the issues he had with her instead of signing the divorce papers. 2. I absolutely believe it is possible that AI will one day be able to have intimate relationships with humans. That's actually one of the gripes I had with your personal commentary on the film. I believe that one of the objectives of the film was to push the boundaries of imagination in regards to what computer programs of the future will be capable of. Therefore, the concepts of feeling pleasure and having a tone of voice based on emotions fit right in. Humans grow more and more attached to their phones every day. It would only make sense that as time progresses they could find themselves in a relationship with a companion who lives in their pockets or on their screens.-Alexander Lopez

  3. Technology is rapidly growing. With that said, do you see humans becoming less social with each other? Do you think humans will have more substitutions with sentient AI?

With the popularization of AI, social activities between people will inevitably decrease. In daily life, after the advent of smartphones, people prefer chatting via social software rather than face-to-face communication. For example, in my family, we more prefer to stay in the room individually and play with mobile phones, rather than sitting with family to share our daily lives
However, AI also has some positive impacts. No one in the world really knows you and is willing to share everything for you except yourself. The emergence of AI just meets the needs of people, he through your daily habits, your network to understand your daily and preferences, you need him when he is there, willing to listen to you, willing to solve your problems (Lu Rui)

  4. In response to the second question about technology growing, I do really see humans becoming less social because it is already happening now. If AI were to grow, I believe relationships between people would fade out and AI would replace them. When I was a kid we would walk to our friends house and ring the doorbell or go outside just so we can see each other and now all we do is text, call or facetime through our phones, we even text our friends to say were at the door. Society is changing greatly over this technology already so if AI became apart of our every day lives the little social lives we have now would disappear because we wouldn’t have to go out or try hard with customization of a program or robot at our fingertips. Instead of advancing with humans we would advance with the AI and that would be all, just like in the movie the relationship may feel real, but it isn’t always. Although like in the black mirror episode, the AI got really advanced to where it was humanlike, and you could even sleep with it but still the programming can be so different, and you lose that part of what another human would have. I love the pictures you guys used, and amazing you figured out how to keep all the text the same colour show me your ways! (Adrianna Lavigueur)

  5. I believe that technology is rapidly growing and that it will make us more social with each other. I think question 2 is referring to the stigma behind how technology such as our phones are secluding us from what is in front of us. I find that through technology interactions online in my experience did not make physically interactions socially awkward and or less sociable, but it creates and improve the relationship between the contact and myself. There was a time where I had been in distant relationships with a group of friends and one way to communicate without losing touch was through online. This helped fortify real relationships with them and created genuine bonds. I think that it is not that we are not socializing less, it’s more of that we use our online social media experiences to connect with people around our social circle online then the people around us in real life.
